In contrast we had a sweet holiday here in Victoria -- missing our respective families, but surrounded by really lovely friends and nice mild (occasionally sunny) weather. Soon, off to sunny Hawaii!
I was really happy with the Mindful Knitting workshop I facilitated for the guild this week. About 15 people attended and everyone really put their heart and soul into it. Of course this is the kind of thing where you get back exactly what you put into it, so I think they all had very good experiences. I'm really hoping we can get a regular group going -- it's such a nice way to meditate and be present with others in that space.
I also have various WIPs I finally got around to photographing: This is a sweater in progress for Dabysan.
I'm also spinning the wool for this sweater from a type of sheep called Corriedale, which is incredibly gushy and warm. I bought the fleece from Aurelia Wool. Andrea is a friend and a great resource for all things woolish. My original idea was to spin it from some fibre I bought in New Zealand, but I couldn't find a good match and I actually like the color of this stuff better, I must admit. Don't know if I'll actually finish by Christams, but it's possible. The pattern is fairly simple except for the sleeves which are not. Check out Durrow.
And then there's the obligatory crochet project. I don't know what it is about crochet, but it is definitely part of my personal mix of craft loves. I love the lacy bits and I love just having one loop to worry about. This is called the Mermaid Scarf and is also available free on the crochet section of Knitting Daily. It seems that a lot of knitters are being snarky about crocheters. I don't get it. They are both wonderful crafts, in my opinion.
Weaving however, is not yet a craft that I can call my own. Although I do own this loom and I am in fact weaving. Or at least have woven. It's not working perfectly yet and at this point it feels a lot more like work than something I do for fun. But I gotten this far and I do want to get to the point where I know it well enough to decide for sure whether it's going to be part of my fibre practice.
So I guess that's enough for one post.
